Twitter Music to Encourage Discovery and Spread of New Music
Twitter’s new music app, Twitter Music, is coming soon. The app is expected to expand users’ music horizons by making it easy to find trending songs and artists. Although details are still scarce, we can piece together some information from the few clues that are currently available.
The app will recommend music by scanning the feeds of more than 200 million Twitter users. Most likely, its suggestions will be personalized after the app analyzes the listening habits of a user’s friends. The New York Times believes that words being used to promote Twitter Music describes “an application that could scan users’ Twitter feeds, update their profiles and even post tweets, suggesting an ability to alert users about the music their friends were listening to.”
Currently, the app is only available to “influencers” such as celebrities, but its release is anticipated within a week.
The Telegraph expects that clips from Soundcloud and music videos from Vevo will be available through the app. This should allow users to share their own audio recordings through Soundcloud and watch music videos from major record labels hosted on Vevo.
Services speculated to be partnering with Twitter Music include iTunes, Spotify, Rdio and YouTube. We Are Hunted, a service that uses social media chat to recommend new music, also recently announced they are joining Twitter. We Are Hunted shut down its own site after Twitter bought the company, possibly to reposition the service as part of its forthcoming app.
Keep an eye on the #music page to be the first to use it, and exchange your favorite new music with all your friends.
