Rap News Rundown: Tyga, Iggy Azalea, Lil Durk, Migos
Tyga Cancels Club Appearance After Underaged Girlfriend Denied Entry
Tyga pulled a no-show at West Hollywood’s Greystone Manor for his pre-birthday celebration after the venue refused to grant entry to 17-year-old Kylie Jenner, his rumored girlfriend. TMZ reports that the rapper delayed his arrival time several times and spoke heavily with the club’s promoters in hopes that he could sway them, but they were unmoved.
He instead opted to host his celebration at a restaurant, The Argyle, where age wouldn’t be an issue. But it appears all for naught since Kylie didn’t show up to the party. According to E! News, Tyga “seemed a bit annoyed,” but stayed out into the wee hours partying with his entourage nonetheless.
In recent interviews, the 25-year-old Young Money MC has denied that he is anything more than friends with Kylie, but one doesn’t usually risk a lawsuit for a platonic friendship. Right?
Iggy Azalea Addresses New Eminem Lyrics
Eminem has courted controversy with the release of his label’s recent hit compilation Shady XV. The two-disc project features old hits and a few new songs from the label’s roster, including Em. On a leaked snippet of “Vegas,” a song with Royce Da 5’9 he raps about raping Iggy Azalea, and in a separate freestyle, he muses about assaulting pop star Lana Del Rey. It’s not unusual for the Detroit-bred lyricist to attack pop stars, or anyone really, in his lyrics. Iggy responded via Twitter, sounding disappointed by the rapper.
“I’m bored of the old men threatening young women as [an] entertainment trend and much more interested in the young women getting [money] trend,” she wrote. “It’s especially awkward because my 14-year-old brother is the biggest Eminem fan and now the artist he admired says he wants to rape me. Nice!”
Lil Jay Accuses Lil Durk Of Being a Snitch
Lil Durk was recently released on bond following his arrest for unlawful use of a weapon earlier this month. But not everyone is happy to see him roaming free. Fellow Chicago rapper Lil Jay accused Durk of being a snitch in a video, and advised people to be cautious of what they say around him.
“How the f*** you out on three bonds for three arrests? Come on man, impossible. You working with them people. What’s your badge number? Attention everybody, watch out for Officer Durk,” says Jay in the short clip. “You got to sit in there. Unless you tell on somebody”
Initial reports had pointed to Durk being held without bond.
Migos’ Quavo Gets Chain Snatched in DC
Rumors spread last week that Migos member Quavo lost his chain during a performance in Washington DC, and since then a DC-based crew has come forward to claim responsibility. Talking with RealTalkHipHop, rap trio LeggTeam taunted Migos, saying “I don’t see this one [chain] dangling no more.” They also warned any other rap acts looking to come to town: “If you don’t have a hood pass, you have to be a man in the heart. Don’t let nobody take your chain. A grown man will not let a n**** take his chain.”
Chief Keef and his GBE crew, who have a contentious relationship with Migos, were initially expected to be involved with the brawl. Keef even posted a picture, since deleted, on Instagram, of what appeared to be Quavo’s chain. It’s now unclear if GBE was involved at all.
