Vote for the Strength Performance Network's College Coach's Choice Award
The Strength Performance Network is the first social media site built specifically for strength coaches. [See our earlier blog post on the subject.] On Sept. 2, the SPN’s inaugural College Coach’s Choice Award will be given to the best college strength coach in the country. Nominations were submitted by the site’s members, but voting is open to anyone until Aug. 31. Visit the Strength Performance Network website to vote.
Here are the five finalists:
Ike Hammerly
School: William Penn University
Position: Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
About: Hammerly, C.S.C.S., focuses on training the football team, but he also oversees training for the school’s 18 other sports teams. The Statesmen gridders went 10-1 in 2010, winning their first conference championship since 1976.
Andrea Hudy
School: University of Kansas
Position: Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance
About: Hudy came to Kansas from UConn where she worked with both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Since joining the Jayhawks in 2004, she has focused on training the men’s basketball team.
Kaz Kazadi
School: Baylor University
Position: Assistant Athletics Director
About: Kazadi works with Baylor’s student-athletes in areas beyond sports performance, helping them manage their emotions and develop mental toughness as well as building their strength. Since he arrived on campus, the Bears’ Athletic Performance Department has added three new positions.
Tommy Moffitt
School: LSU
Position: Director of Strength and Conditioning
About: Moffitt is in his ninth year with the LSU football team, a perennial powerhouse on the national stage. One of the top college strength coaches in the nation, he has helped the Tigers compile an overall record of 78-25 since joining LSU’s strength staff.
Don Sommer
School: Texas Christian University
Position: Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
About: Sommer has been with the Horned Frogs since early 2001, responsible for implementing training for all 20 sports on campus. TCU capped a storybook 2011 season with a win in the Rose Bowl.
