Andrew Luck and the "World's Greatest Dumbbell Warm-Up"
The Andrew Luck era is officially underway in Indianapolis, and the buzz out of the Colts camp is that the top pick in the 2012 NFL Draft is in complete command of his team’s offense.
Per NFL.com, Colts wide receiver Austin Collie said of Luck, “I think he’s ahead of all of us.” (Learn more about Collie’s off-season training.)
Everyone knows that Luck is the most complete quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning, the man who set the standard for elite QB play through 13 seasons in Indianapolis. But here’s something you may not know about Luck: he moves serious weight in the gym.
“Andrew is very flexible and he’s an amazing Olympic lifter,” says Travelle Gaines, who helped train the Stanford grad for his rookie season. Not only that, but Luck’s warm-up routine is harder than most quarterbacks’ full workouts (except for Tim Tebow’s power-building circuit).
Luck’s routine is known as the “World’s Greatest Dumbbell Warm-Up.” It calls for him to perform eight reps of the following exercises in succession:
- Upright Row
- Hang Snatch
- Squat Press
- Bent-Over Row
- Curl-to-Press
- Lateral Raise
Watch the video above to see Luck conquer the World’s Greatest Dumbbell Warm-Up. If you’re thinking of adding this supreme routine to your workout, heed this advice from Gaines: “The biggest point is to find a weight that’s going to push you. As you see with Andrew, I pushed him to bump his weight up, and he fought through it while having a good range of motion and good technique with all of the exercises.”
