While promoting his latest action movie, The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that he will appear in the upcoming Terminator movie.

Terminator 5 has been in the works since 2009, when Terminator Salvation was released. But a series of setbacks have prevented it from getting off the ground: Justin Lin backed out of directing the movie, and the first bunch of writers were unable to produce a suitable script after two years.

Patrick Lussier, known for his work on Drive Angry and Hell Driver, and Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote Shutter Island and 2004’s Alexander, have since been tasked with creating a new script. Schwarzenegger was confident that they would wrap it up by the end of the year so production of the film can move quickly.

“I think this year the script will be finished and we will be able to go into pre-production,” said the former California governor during an interview with The Sun.

It is currently unclear how involved Arnold will be in the film; however, he is expected to reprise his role as T-1000. And though it hasn’t been ruled out, it’s unlikely actors Christian Bale and Sam Worthington will be reprising their roles from the 2009 flick, which was panned by critics. Termination Salvation pulled the lowest box office totals in the series, except for the first film, which later became a cult classic. A release date for the sequel has not yet been announced.
