Check Out Who’s Joining ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’
Exciting details have been announced for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the upcoming installment of the Star Wars film franchise. As some will remember, the picture was previously titled Star Wars Anthology. The storyline follows a group of rebels who embark on a mission to steal plans for the Death Star.
Said to be the first female-centric Star Wars film, the movie will star the highly in-demand British actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything). Additional confirmed castmates include Diego Luna (Elysium), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Donnie Yen (Ip Man franchise), Jiang Wen (The Lost Bladesman), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Alan Tudyk (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) and veteran actor Forest Whitaker, who can currently be seen in Southpaw.
One of the film’s producers, Kathleen Kennedy, recently explained the differences and similarities between this movie and others in the franchise, saying: “Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know.”
Directing the picture is Gareth Edwards, best known for directing the new Godzilla film franchise. The screenplay was written by Chis Weitz (About a Boy), with story credits to Gary Whitta (After Earth) and special effects artist John Knoll (Avatar).
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will debut in 3D and 2D theaters and IMAX on Dec. 16, 2016.
