From iPhone apps to video games, technology offers today’s athletes plenty of ways to bust out of a training rut. A major complaint about many aerobic training video games, however, is that they feel like a session in the gym or a workout DVD. Jillian Michaels Fitness Adventure, a new game for the Xbox 360 Kinect, aims to remedy this problem.
The game, led by former Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels, moves the workout out of the virtual gym and into an Indiana Jones adventure setting. In “Fitness Adventure” mode, you’ll find yourself running through a jungle, frantically dodging obstacles.
Athletes will appreciate the game’s Fitness Training mode, which allows them to combine various exercises and circuits to construct a personalized workout. Whether your goal is to build strength, improve flexibility or cut weight, you can create a routine that lets you work toward achieving it without getting bored.
The game does have a few drawbacks, which prevent it from serving as an everyday fitness companion. For example, as many reviewers have noted, the motion tracking system could be more accurate. And although the game provides a good workout, it won’t push your body to the limit like a session in the gym. Still, Jillian Michaels Fitness Adventure is a worthy option for athletes who want an off-day challenge that packs a lot of fun into a workout.
