FIRST LOOK: New York Marathon-Inspired Running Shoe from New Balance
In anticipation of the ING New York City Marathon on Nov. 3, New Balance announced a version of its 890v4 running shoe that pays homage to the boroughs and neighborhoods the marathoners race through.
The toe box salutes Manhattan’s skyline. The outside of the heel cup and the insole list the neighborhoods the race route traverses. The lugs in the back half of the shoe are painted in a cement color, representing the pavement and asphalt the competitors will run on.
The shoe’s vibrant colors recall the feeling of street art seen around the city, which adds “NYC details,” according to the New Balance website. But our favorite detail by far has to be the aglets (the plastic caps at the ends of the laces)—which feature little mustaches, and we have no idea why.
