The 'Madden 18' Rookie Ratings Are Out, and Myles Garrett Is a Beast

Garrett will immediately be one of most athletically gifted players in the game. Meanwhile, John Ross will have the highest speed rating of any player.

With Madden NFL 18 set to drop on Aug. 25, EA Sports will gradually be revealing player ratings as we draw closer to the release.

First up—the rookies selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has the highest rating of any rookie, checking in with an 83 overall. While that might not sound overly impressive, Garrett's freakish athleticism is apparent in his 90 acceleration and 96 strength. His 96 strength immediately makes him one of the top 10 strongest players in the entire game. If Garrett can prove his fundamentals and football IQ are NFL-ready, he could be in line for a big ratings bump before the end of the season. From EASports.com: "His speed and power combo is nearly unmatched among linemen, but other players like J.J. Watt come up big with other important ratings like Power Move, Block Shedding, Finesse Move, and Play Recognition. Garrett has some work to do to build those ratings, but has the foundation attributes to be a key player in Madden."

Despite being the 19th overall pick in the draft, Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard has the second-highest rating of any rookie with an 82 overall. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Howard possesses a rare blend of size and athleticism, sporting ratings of 87 speed, 90 acceleration and 82 agility. Expect him to play like a "faster, more elusive Martellus Bennett."

Some other notable rankings include Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey (81 overall) and Cincinnati Bengals receiver John Ross (77 overall). Both these dudes have some unbelievable athletic traits, and their ratings reflect that. McCaffrey has 91 speed, 92 acceleration and 96 agility. That agility rating is on par with what Darren Sproles sported in Madden NFL 17. Ross has a 98 speed rating, which makes him the fastest player in Madden NFL 18. A fitting reward for the new NFL Combine 40-Yard Dash champion.
