Although Shawne Merriman retired in 2013 after eight NFL seasons, the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker doesn’t seem to have dialed down his training regimen at all.
From Sled Drives to Battle Ropes to boxing, Merriman is training like he’s still in his prime.
Recently, the man nicknamed “Lights Out” caught our attention with an exercise whose movements are not unlike “driving a bus.” In the video below, Merriman holds a heavy plate at arm’s length, keeping his shoulders back and locked in while he rotates it in a half circle from side to side. During his playing days, Merriman suffered from shoulder injuries. This movement mobilizes and strengthens his shoulders and upper back, while stabilizing the joint.
