Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell Confirmed for ‘True Detective’ Second Season
It’s official! Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell have snagged two of the four available lead roles for the second season of HBO’s critically acclaimed drama, True Detective. Both actors were rumored to be involved in the project early on, and Farrell confirmed his participation this week during an interview with the Irish newspaper, The Sunday World.
“I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited,” he said. “I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles, which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”
During an interview with HitFix back in March, creator Nic Pizzolatto said the plot would revolve around “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.” We know that the murder of a corrupt city businessman just before the close of a lucrative transportation deal is what will plunge viewers into this world.
Farrell will portray Ray Velcoro, a detective torn between the badge and a mobster “who owns him.” Vaughn will play career criminal Frank Semyon, who was almost ready to leave his criminal past behind when his legitimate business was threatened by the death of a partner.
Two other lead roles are expected, a male and a female, both law enforcement officials brought in to solve the high-profile case. Taylor Kitsch, Elizabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams are rumored to be in the running for those roles.
Unlike the first series, the upcoming season will have multiple directors. Justin Lin has been the only one confirmed so far. He will helm the first two episodes. HBO has not revealed when True Detective‘s second series will premiere.
