Inside the Rankings: Texas Baseball
The University of Texas baseball team is used to winning. The Longhorns not only own the highest winning percentage in college baseball history, they also hold the record for most appearances and most wins in College World Series history. Since 1895, the program has produced nearly 100 Major Leaguers, like San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt and Cincinnati Reds CF Drew Stubbs.
A large part of the team’s success must be attributed to Augie Garrido, head coach since 1997. The winningest coach in NCAA baseball history, Garrido has led Texas to two National Championships. Thanks to his unique approach to the game and the professional success of so many players he’s coached, Garrido was named one of the top three baseball teachers in the nation by the Major League Baseball Directors of Player Development.
