David Beckham and L.A. Galaxy Fit for Western Conference Finals
After a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, Nov. 7, David Beckham, Landon Donovan and the rest of the L.A. Galaxy are ready to take on F.C. Dallas for the MLS Western Conference Title.
Heading into their ninth straight month of competition—long enough to decimate a team with injuries and lack of rest—the Galaxy are still playing like it’s week one of the season. But that doesn’t mean injuries haven’t taken a toll.
Following Sunday’s game, Beckham told the media that physically he is still not 100 percent. He missed six months due to a torn Achilles tendon, suffered while playing on loan for AC Milan. Yet the Brit superstar, who set up Edson Buddle’s goal with a cheeky cross, said that with every new day, progress is being made.
“Obviously, it’s kind of my preseason,” Beckham remarked. “I’m still trying to get fit. I’m still getting the aches and the pains of preseason. [But] if I look after my body [like I have] since I’ve been back, hopefully, I’ll continue to progress.”
One reason why Beckham and the Galaxy are still playing with pace for 90+ minutes is the on-field core training they perform throughout the week.
