Gaming Update: ‘BioShock Infinite,’ ‘Final Fantasy XIII,’ ‘Pokemon X and Y’
Last week, Irrational promised more content for Bioshock Infinite, Final Fantasy XIII borrowed from the past, and Nintendo teased X and Y upgrades in its latest trailer.
Bioshock Infinite DLC Coming Later This Month
Irrational Games has confirmed plans to release a new DLC for Bioshock Infinite later this month, although it’s unclear if the release is a part of the game’s season pass, which will include three DLC packs. Ken Levine said the company was working on the content last week, but asked for patience from fans, since “game development takes time.”
Aside from the special editions and pre-order bonuses, which were bundled and sold in a pack entitled “Columbia’s Finest” last week for $5, there haven’t been any add-ons released for the first-person shooter. But rumors suggest that the upcoming DLC could expand on some of the more interesting characters’ storylines.
Final Fantasy Gets Nostalgic With Pre-Order Bonus
A pre-order of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will give gamers access to an in-game outfit based off VII‘s Cloud Strife, including the Buster Sword and Soldier’s Band. “Cloud’s famous victory pose and fanfare have also been faithfully recreated,” notes Square Enix.
The game’s protagonist and titular character Lightning may be getting the ability to use some of Cloud’s special powers. But additional details have been withheld until a later date. Lightning Returns will hit shelves in Feb. 2014.
In related news, Final Fantasy VII has been released on Steam for PC gamers. The PS classic was previously only available via Square Enix’s online store. It has since been re-vamped to include “brand new online features,” including 36 unlockable achievements and a character booster mode. There’s currently no word on when the game will be downloadable for Mac owners.
New Pokemon X and Y Trailer Released
Nintendo has released a Japanese trailer for Pokemon X and Y. But worry not; the language barrier isn’t much of an issue. The updated graphics take center stage as the clip takes you through a series of battles. It also illustrates how fighting together helps the Pokemon bond, previews mid-air fights using the new fairy-type Pokemon and shows players how the new Player Search System works.
In other news, a strategy guide for the game has already popped up on Amazon’s digital shelves for $17.99. It promises to provide hints on battles and comes with a pullout map of the new Kalos region.
Pokemon X and Y will be released Oct. 12 worldwide.
