‘Harbinger,’ ‘Bloodshot’ Comics Headed to the Big Screen
Comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment has announced a five-picture deal with Sony that will result in feature film adaptations of the popular comics Harbinger and Bloodshot. Each will receive two feature films before they are combined in a fifth film, inspired by a 2013 comic book series crossover.
This news came out shortly after Valiant revealed ambitious plans to launch a cinematic universe featuring their characters.
The screenplay for Bloodshot is being written by Jeff Wadlow, best known for Kick-Ass 2, and Eric Heisserer, whose credits include remakes of horror films The Thing and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The Bloodshot comics, created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton, center on a soldier who dies and is brought back to life by a secret government agency, using technological upgrades that turn him into the “perfect soldier.” He is transformed into an unstoppable killing machine powered by nanotechnology and possessing no memory. Collaborators David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will direct Bloodshot, which is expected to hit theaters some time in 2017. The duo previously worked together on John Wick and are set to reteam for the sequel.
The Harbinger series, from Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter and David Lapham, follows a group of teenagers with various superpowers who are trying to escape the clutches of a foundation, headed by evil philanthropist Toyo Harada, that plans to use them to control the world. Heisserer will also write the screenplay.
Harbinger and Bloodshot are not the only Valiant comics making their way to the big screen. Other properties with movie adaptations currently in the works include the supernatural thriller Shadowman and the action comedy Archer & Armstrong.
