Chris Paul has always been family-oriented. So it’s no surprise that his latest signature sneaker, the CP3.V, incorporates plenty of personal family details.
If you look closely, you’ll notice 61 different triangles around the sneaker. They refer to Paul’s grandfather, who was murdered at age 61. Soon after his death, Paul scored 61 points in a game, then missed a free throw on purpose and took himself out of the game in a gesture of respect.
There’s more. Inconspicuous dots along the heel reference important dates in Paul’s life, such as his wedding day and the day his son was born. “Every time I step out on the court, I want to feel like I’m taking my family with me,” says Paul. And with the CP3.V, he’s as close as he can get to making that happen.
