It has been confirmed that filmmaker Justin Lin, best known for directing several Fast & Furious movies, has signed on to direct the latest Star Trek film. The announcement came shortly after the news broke that Robert Orci, who co-wrote the script, bowed out of directing the project. The first two installments of this successful film series reboot, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, were directed by J.J. Abrams, who passed up directing the third film so he could direct Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Lin is hotter than ever at the moment. In addition to this film, he is also set to direct the highly anticipated remake of The Wolf Man. He was attached to The Bourne Betrayal, but that project is currently on hold, leaving him free to board Star Trek 3.
Star Trek 3 is expected to be released sometime in 2016.
