Leonard Fournette Ran 22.90 MPH During a Game Last Season
This morning, FOX Sports reporter Bruce Feldman dropped a list of the 11 “freak” NFL Draft prospects he expects to dazzle at the Combine.
One of the players on that list is former LSU running back Leonard Fournette. From Feldman:
A big bruising back with sprinter speed, Fournette has been timed at 4.42, despite weighing close to 230 pounds. His top-end burst also figures to drop some jaws. Tigers strength coach Tommy Moffitt told me that Fournette was clocked on their GPS system at 22.9 mph in one game—fastest of anyone on a very fast team. For context, anything over 21 mph is considered very fast.
That’s mind-numbingly fast for a player as big as Fournette.
The NFL began inserting GPS trackers inside every player’s shoulder pads prior to the 2015 season. The trackers collect data on velocity, distance traveled and proximity to opposing players. Ever since the introduction of this technology, STACK’s been keeping an eye out for impressive numbers. Dating back to to the start of the 2015 season, only one NFL ballcarrier has ever clocked a speed faster than Fournette’s 22.90 mph. Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs was clocked at 23.24 mph during a play last season. But other than Hill, no one’s run faster than Fournette. Not DeSean Jackson. Not Brandin Cooks. Not Tedd Ginn Jr.
That’s downright scary.
Leonard Fournette’s top speed against Ole Miss was 22.9 MPH.
Texans rookie WR Will Fuller’s top speed this year so far is 21.6 MPH.

Fournette is built like a Hummer, but he has the speed of a Ferrari. Perhaps the scariest thing is that he just weighed in at the Combine at 240 pounds, making him heaviest running back at the event.
Leonard Fournette weighed in at 240 pounds, the heaviest of all RBs. The lightest? San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey (176). #NFLCombine

If Fournette somehow managed to add 10 more pounds of muscle to his already jacked frame while maintaining his elite top speed, he’s going to be one of the biggest winners at the 2017 NFL Combine.
