Meal Snap App: Easy Way to Count Calories
Athletes must take in enough calories throughout the day to meet their energy demands. According to Josh Hingst, director of sports nutrition for the University of Nebraska, “There is nothing more fundamental or foundational to nutrition than meeting your calorie needs.”
Unfortunately, keeping track of the number of calories you consume isn’t always easy. If you make a salad or a more complex dish with several ingredients, you’re not likely to weight and research the nutritional information for each ingredient.
Thankfully, a new app for the iPhone, iPad 2 and iPod Touch makes this process easier. With Meal Snap – Calorie Counting Magic [available at the App Store for $2.99], you simply take a picture of your food, and the app calculates the number of calories you are about to consume. In addition, you can associate foods with specific meals and dates to get an overall picture of your consumption, helping you meet your energy needs.
In our tests of Meal Snap, the results have been fairly impressive. Meal Snap quickly calculated the calories in an orange, banana and hard-boiled eggs. View these screen shots of the app in action.
