‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer Swings into Action
Sony has released the first full-length trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The sequel picks up with Spidey racking up victories and disposing of evildoers with relative ease. The superhero is concerned, however, that eventually he will encounter a villain who will not be vanquished so easily. Of course, it quickly becomes apparent that his fears are well founded.
In the clip, fans are introduced to Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Paul Giamatti’s Rhino, and Harry Osborn, played by Dane DeHaan. The video hints at Osborn’s transformation into the Green Goblin, and a quick glimpse of his father’s shady organization also teases the future arrival of baddies Doctor Octopus and the Vulture.
“Every day I wake up knowing that the more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make. And it’s just a matter of time before I face those with more power than I can overcome,” says Spider-Man.
As has been rumored, it appears that Oscorp had a hand in creating Electro. Peter Parker realizes the connection after learning more about his father and his work at Oscorp. The only bright spot in our superhero’s life appears to be his relationship with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone), which is still going strong. But it’s unclear whether she will make it through the sequel alive.
The movie is clearly being used as a launching pad for the Sinister Six. But concern is growing over whether so many villains will overcrowd the plot. Director Sam Raimi had a similar problem with the third installment of his Tobey Maguire-led series, and it was critically panned. Let’s hope Marc Webb can avoid that pitfall!
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released May 2, 2014, in both 2D and IMAX 3D. Two sequels are already in the works, slated to be released June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018.[youtube video=”nbp3Ra3Yp74″ /]
