Meet the Suicide Squad Coming to ‘Arrow’
With four more episodes left in its successful second season CW’s Arrow is finally ready to introduce the Suicide Squad.
The team was hinted at in the Jan. 29 “Tremors” episode, when shady government agent Amanda Waller came to the rescue of Ben Turner (a.k.a. Bronze Tiger), offering him a reduced sentence in exchange for his joining her squad. We will meet the entire antihero crew on March 17, in the aptly titled episode, “Suicide Squad.” A recently released promo pic reveals that the members will include the explosive-happy Shrapnel (Sean Maher), Deadshot (Michael Rowe), Lyla Michaels, Bronze Tiger, Waller and Oliver’s bestie, Diggle.
Unsurprisingly, the episode will largely focus on Diggle. We will dig into the driver/security guard’s past, learning more about his link to a warlord and his relationship with Ted Gaynor, his former commanding officer. It’ll be interesting to see how he works with Floyd Lawton/Deadshot, whom until recently he held solely responsible for his brother’s death.
“Dig was our way into Amanda Waller, and in this episode, Amanda comes to Dig and Lyla . . . and basically recruits Dig for a mission and basically tells him that he’s going to need a team, and she saddles him with the Squad including Floyd Lawton,” said producer Andrew Kreisberg during a press event last month.
The other episodes will also feature a few returning baddies. Kreisberg didn’t name anyone specifically, but the season finale’s title—”Deathstroke”—implies that at least one two-tone masked assassin will be involved.
