Heavy ropes are quickly becoming a staple in weight rooms around the country, and for good reason. They are a great tool for increasing strength, gaining muscle, losing weight and increasing endurance.
Muscle Ropes are manufactured from manila hemp, a natural material that has incredibly high tensile strength, but costs little compared to synthetic ropes.
Muscle Ropes offer a variety of options. The Elite line is 1.5 inches in diameter and comes in 30-, 50-, 75- and 100-foot lengths. The longer the length, the more challenging the workout. Muscle Ropes also offer an Extreme line with a two-inch-diameter rope that is perfect for stronger athletes who are looking for an increased challenge.
The folks at Muscle Ropes were kind enough to send us 30- and 50-foot Elite Ropes for testing. One rope had Gorilla Tape grips, and the other came with heavy-duty shrink-wrapped grips (for an additional $4).
The ropes performed as expected. Both grips were comfortable, but we preferred the heavy-duty shrink-wrapped ones. The ropes do shed during use, which is a trait of the manila. However, this shouldn’t be a problem if you use them outside or in an area that can quickly be swept.
Regardless of your fitness level, you’re in for a tough workout with Muscle Ropes. The 30-foot rope is perfect for beginners, while the 50-foot rope offers a considerable challenge, even for advanced athletes. After the workout, we noticed muscle soreness—particularly in the shoulders—despite partaking in a regular training program. The conditioning aspect was also notable, since the exercises become quite difficult when performed for 30 seconds to a minute.
