Matthew Vaughn has reportedly signed on to produce 20th Century Fox's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Comic book writer and Marvel creative consultant Mark Millar announced the news via his official Twitter account late last week:

Known for his work on the X-Men franchise, Vaughn has worked with Millar in the past. He directed and co-produced Kick-Ass, which was based on Millar's comic book of the same name. Josh Trank, highly regarded for his work on the 2012 cult hit Chronicle, will serve as the director for the reboot.

In the hands of Vaughn and Trank, the Fantastic Four remake could potentially become a blockbuster. The 2005 version from director Tim Story was panned by critics for poor acting and a lackluster story. Yet both films pulled in considerable amounts at the box office; the 2005 original raked in $331 million and Rise of the Silver Surfer made $289 million.

Earlier this year, Millar spoke with SciFiNow, expressing confidence in Trank's ability to transform the franchise into something new. "From what I've seen and from talking to him—he and I have had dinner a couple of times and we talk quite regularly as well—he's contemporising it," said the writer. "I think he's just making it work for the screen—he's a great storyteller."

The reboot is slated to hit theaters in the already crowded summer of 2015.
