Dwyane Wade is one of the NBA’s best performers in clutch situations. His already elite game reaches an entirely new level late in a contest when the game is on the line. This ability to execute in the face of pressure and fatigue is the direct result of his intense focus on skill development and conditioning work leading up to the season.
Dwyane’s off-season workouts with ATTACK Athletics owner Tim Grover encompass everything from explosive strength training to diligent injury prevention exercises. However, before he ever touches a weight or even enters the weight room for that matter, Dwyane focuses exclusively on his basketball ability through a lengthy on-court skills and conditioning session.
“We always start on the court to get shots going and to get into a rhythm,” says the two-time NBA champion. “You do a lot of things that you do in the games; then you also try new things. Whether it’s something [I] want to work on or things Tim wants me to work on, [it’s] so I can get comfortable with all kinds of different moves.
The basketball-first focus is deeply rooted within the cutting-edge ATTACK Athletics training methodology. “We are building a basketball player; we are not building a bodybuilder or weightlifter,” Grover says. “The emphasis has to be on his sport first. So the court work and the stuff he is known for—[what] he gets paid for and the fans enjoy—should be emphasized first, before he ever enters the weight room. We have him on the basketball court getting his conditioning up, working on different aspects of his game [and] all the stuff that he uses in the game—then [we try] to add something new. When you are a great athlete and you can master the fundamentals, then you have a Michael Jordan or a Dwyane Wade.”
