Real Athlete Reviews: Point 3 Gear

June 11, 2013

Must See Basketball Videos

This performance review is brought to you by Ryan and Kyle, a two-man team who take a particular interest in basketball gear. We currently play basketball at the high school and AAU level, which gives our reviews a unique perspective, since we play games almost daily and at a high pace.

If you have any questions not answered in this review, feel free to email us at roksbasketball@gmail.com, and we will do our best to give you an answer.

For this review, the ROKS team tested two of Point 3's latest pieces of apparel: the Base Layer and DRYV-LT shorts. Here's what they found.

3-Point Gear

Base Layer

Point 3's Basketball Base Layer is a sleeveless compression shirt that can be worn under a jersey. I found it to be one of the most comfortable shirts I’ve ever worn playing basketball. After trying it once, I started bringing it everywhere I went to play.

The first thing you notice when you put the shirt on is how light it is. The compression shirt adapts well to your body with four-way stretch fabric, so it never feels like it’s holding you back. The best part about the shirt is the aerated, moisture-wicking fabric. The little holes keep you cool without sacrificing the shirt’s durability. The shirt’s ventilation and airflow kept me comfortable through the entire game, helping me play harder, longer.

Technical Specs

  • Weight: 6.1 oz.
  • Aerated moisture wicking fabric – heat escapes, baller stays cool
  • 4-way stretch fabric moves with your body
  • Tight body fit compression for complete freedom of movement
  • Stain-free side panels include anti-stink technology
  • 95% Polyester / 5% Spandex – 6.9 oz.

DRYV-LT Basketball Shorts

The DRYV-LT shorts are revolutionary to say the least. Point 3’s signature shorts are lightweight and provide great ventilation, but their most important feature is the DRYV panels that actually double as a towel.

We can honestly say that DRYV technology is the most useful thing we’ve ever taken onto a basketball court. When most basketball players get sweaty, they start to wipe their hands on their uniforms, which is by no means an effective method for keeping dry. Sweat on the hands often leads to missed shots, off-target passes and failed layups. As we’ve struggled with sweaty hands during practices and games, we’ve personally lost control of dunks because we could no longer palm the ball. With these shorts, we've been able to keep our hands dry at all times and significantly reduced unforced errors.

Point 3 does not make its shorts in team design at the moment, so youth, high school, and college players can only wear them  during pick-up games. But I would recommend all basketball players give these shorts a try at the $50 price point.

Technical Specs

  • Weight: 8.8 oz. (size L)
  • SHORTS + TOWEL = GENIUS: DRYV® Moisture Control hip panels
  • Super lightweight 4-way stretch body fabric
  • Ventilated heat zones where ballers sweat most (lower back and crotch)
  • Bonded seams move with your body on the court
  • Extra deep pockets angled inward for easy storage
  • 11" inseam (size L)
  • 94% Polyester / 6% Spandex - 180 g
