Weighing less than eight ounces, the new Nike CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II is one of the sleekest boots in the world, worn by one of the fastest soccer players in the world. "This is my favorite boot, and I love to play [in it]," Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid and Portugal National team star, told reporters during a Nike press conference.
The boot's arresting Safari print is overlaid with a tonal chevron pattern that illuminates in certain lighting. Appearing as a flash in a player's peripheral vision, the reflective graphic can improve player awareness on pitch. Nike's unique Flywire technology, placed along the sides of the boot, produces a precise fit with optimal support.
The outer sole, made of a carbon fiber composite plate, is the lightest and strongest Nike has ever created—practically guaranteeing the boot will not fall apart, no matter how hard an athlete cuts and kicks.
The component that puts this boot over the top is Nike's Sense adaptive traction system. Designers created a pair of adaptive studs that can extend and retract—just like shocks in a car—up to 3 mm, based on ground conditions and the amount of force a player exerts striking the ground. The adaptive studs are surrounded by bladed studs for maximum control when quickly changing direction.
"The CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II makes a statement on pitch and the Safari print expresses my style," Ronaldo says. "Combined with incredibly light and responsive performance, the boot gives me everything I need to elevate my game."
The CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II also gives consumers exclusive access to training insights from top players and coaches through Nike Football+. Each pair of boots comes with a unique user code to unlock insider tips and Master Speed training content.
Ronaldo will debut the CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II on the pitch Nov. 7 during "El Derbi" (Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid), and the boot will be available in stores globally and online at nikestore.com beginning Nov. 15.
