New Balance Releases Lightest Running Shoes in the World—the RC 5000

Discover how the lightest running shoe to date is constructed using RevLite technology optimal for short distance running and speed workouts.

Lightest Running Shoes

Weighing in at a phenomenally light 3.2 ounces (2.5 ounces for the women's model), the New Balance RC 5000 is the lightest running shoe on the market. Use it for track or speed workouts and for short-distance road races (up to 10K).

The shoe features revamped REVlite 2011 technology (also found in the RC 1600), as well as a unique upper created by fusing two extremely thin materials together. It provides a more natural ride with its 8mm offset, flexible midsole and cushioning, which supports the foot without inhibiting natural motion.  The FantomFit seamless upper is skeletally engineered for a dynamic feel and lightweight lockdown.

The RC 5000 is great for speedsters who want to feel like they're wearing nothing at all, but it's not for everyone.  If you're new to minimalist shoes, or if your body mechanics are not suited to barefoot running (e.g., if you pronate), you need to proceed with caution. And if you run more miles, you should check out some of New Balance's long-distance lines, like the Minimus collection. But if you want to take your speed workouts to the next level, or you're looking for a responsive ride on race day, kick it up a notch or two with the RC 5000.

The RC 5000, in men's and women's styles, retails for $125.
