The nominees have been announced for the 2014 BET Awards.
“This year’s nominees represent the best of the culture,” said BET in a statement. “It’s great to see our talented new artists right alongside our more beloved ones with long careers.”
Power couple Jay Z and Beyoncé lead the way with four nominations each. Bey is up for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration for “Drunk in Love” and two Video of the Year nominations with Jay for “Partition” and “Drunk in Love”. The Brooklyn rapper was nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for “Holy Grail” with Justin Timberlake.
GQ’s Rapper of the Year, Kendrick Lamar, will go up against Jay, Drake, Future and J. Cole for the Best Male Hip Hop Artist award. It’s Lamar’s only nomination. Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea will duke it out for Best Female Hip Hop Artist along with nominees Angel Haze, Charli Baltimore and Eve.
The competition for Best New Artist is stiff with singers Ariana Grande, August Alsina and Mack Wilds vying for the title against rappers Rich Homie Quan and Schoolboy Q. Alsina also has a chance to walk away with the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award and Best Collaboration for his single with Trinidad Jame$, “I Luv This.” Also up for Best R&B/Pop Artist are Chris Brown, John Legend, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams.
