Rap News Rundown: 50 Cent, Lil Phat, Lil Wayne
Last week, a tiff with a former lover landed 50 Cent in the headlines, we got more details about the murder of Lil Phat, and a Lil Wayne affiliate was arrested for attempted murder.
50 Cent Hit With Domestic Violence Charge
50 Cent has been accused of assaulting an ex-girlfriend after a late June argument got out of control. According to TMZ, the rapper kicked the woman, who is also the mother of one of his children, and caused more than $7,100 in damage to her Toluca Lake, Calif. condo. When the police arrived at the scene, he was already gone.
The rap mogul is scheduled to be arraigned in court on July 22. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison. He has released a statement via his lawyer denying all of the charges.
“Curtis Jackson denies these allegations as made against him. It is important to note, Mr. Jackson has not been arrested and there is no warrant outstanding for his arrest,” said attorney Scott Leemon. “We have been in contact with the L.A. City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not be commenting any further at this time.”
More Details About Lil Phat’s Murder
Authorities have released more details about the tragic death of Lil Phat. Prosecutors believe the up-and-coming rapper was gunned down in a $10,000 murder-for-hire plot that reads like a bad novel. The motive for the murder allegedly involves ten pounds of stolen marijuana.
Rapper El Dorado Red (real name: Gary Bradford) and San Francisco State University point guard Decensae White accused the late performer of being behind the drug theft and allegedly hired two others, Deandre Washington and Maurice Conner, to murder him. Washington and Conner tracked him down with help from Mani Chulpayev, a former member of the Russian mafia, and allegedly murdered him in the parking deck of Northside Hospital in Atlanta. All five have been indicted, and everyone except White remains in jail.
Lil Wayne Affiliate, Flow, Arrest for Attempted Murder
Rapper Flow, who is signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of armed robbery. The charges stem from an incident that took place in April, reports The Advocate.
Flow (real name: Widner DeGruy) reportedly attempted to fatally shoot a man. After failing, he allegedly beat up the victim, then robbed him and another man. He is currently being held on $350,000 bond after being extradited back to Louisiana from California.
According to his Young Money bio, Flow appeared on Wayne’s latest mixtape, Dedication 4, and is currently working on a project with fellow members Gudda Gudda and Kevin Gates. He often performs with The Flamez.
