adidas Kicks Off the Olympics With the adizero Primeknit
Just one day before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, adidas revealed its revolutionary new running shoe: the adizero Primeknit. Breaking free from the traditional athletic shoe model—constructing a shoe from several different pieces—adidas has employed the latest design tools to digitally engineer the adizero Primeknit upper in one seamless piece.
James Carnes, head of design for sport performance at adidas, says, “In designing the adizero Primeknit, our goal was to completely rethink how footwear is engineered, with a keen eye on sustainable construction. This revolutionary design will forever change the way we engineer shoes, combining both premium innovation and maximum performance benefits.”
The seamless technology enhances the shoe’s flexibility, support and strength while providing an unmatched ventilation system with its digitally knit pattern. In addition, the adizero Primeknit goes green, since it unique seamless engineering produces less waste.
adidas is welcoming the Olympics by creating 2,012 individually numbered pairs of adizero Primeknits—festively colored in red, white and blue and available exclusively at the temporary adidas store at 10 Newburgh Street in London.
If you aren’t lucky enough to be in London for the Olympics, additional colors will be available this fall at adidas.com and selected retail stores.
