Derek Samuel has been practicing as a licensed physical therapist and human performance expert since 1997. He is the owner/operator of a high-level sports rehabilitation and human performance clinic, named Derek Samuel MPT, located in La Jolla, California. He additionally is a part of Nike, serving on The Performance Council. Derek has worked with countless elite level athletes from every major sport, including multiple Heisman Trophy winners, NFL and MLB MVP’s, NFL All-Pro’s and NCAA All-Americans. He currently dedicates half of his practice exclusively to the NFL athlete, where he not only rehabilitates various injuries, but he additionally designs and implements human performance programs for the NFL offseason. Derek received his undergraduate degree from the university of California, Irvine in 1994. During his time at UCI, he competed in the NCAA division 1 men’s volleyball program. He then went on to earn a Masters degree in physical therapy from Western University of Health Sciences in 1997, where he currently serves as a Trustee Emeritus for the University. Derek has always been a non-traditional physical therapist, and is considered one of the top health practitioners in the industry. His emphasis is on biomechanics. He has introduced cutting edge concepts to physical therapy and human performance within the background of an evidence-based practice.
