‘Bastard Executioner’ Heads to FX With Kurt Sutter, Katey Sagal On Board
The pilot for the historical action drama series Bastard Executioner has been picked up by FX. The show follows Wilkin Brattle (played by Australian actor Lee Jones), a former knight in King Edward I’s charge, who vows to lay down his sword after suffering the ravages of war. But as it turns out, his most violent days are still ahead.
Jones is best known for his theater work, but he has some TV experience, in series such as Home and Away.
Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy) will write, direct and executive produce the series alongside creative partner Paris Barclay. Sutter will also have an onscreen role, as will his Sons of Anarchy co-star and real-life wife Katey Sagal. She will play the fascinating character Annora of the Alders, a beautiful, mystical woman who offers potions and predicts the future. Sutter’s character, called The Dark Mute, is described as the guardian and mate of Annora. The face of the mysterious Dark Mute is never seen, and he rarely speaks.
Flora Spencer-Longhurst (Leonardo) will star as the beautiful and cunning Baroness Lowry “Love” Aberffraw Ventris, who married when she was 17 to save her family’s lands. Stephen Moyer (True Blood) plays the savvy and street smart Milus Corbett, serving as chamberlain, chancellor and justiciar. Sam Spruell (Snow White and the Huntsman) is cast as former archer Toran Prichard, who is Wilkin’s best friend.
Production is set to begin in Wales on March 19.
