Break Dancing Flick ‘Battle of the Year’ Coming Soon
The 3D dance flick Battle of the Year, starring Josh Holloway and Chris Brown, opens in theaters Sept. 13. In the film, washed-up basketball coach Blake, played by Holloway, accepts an off-the-wall offer to coach America’s top break dancing team from B-Boy-turned-hip-hop-mogul Dante, played by Laz Alonso.
The raw group, which includes Chris Brown’s Rooster, is to represent America in an annual international competition considered the Olympics of break dancing. The unruly lot faces an uphill battle as they progress from “dancing boot camp” in a facility that looks like a prison to their showdown against the freakishly talented Koreans.
Inspired by a real-life world championship held annually in France, Battle of the Year is helmed by Planet B-Boy director Benson Lee, who also co-wrote the film with Brin Hill and Chris Parker.
