‘Baywatch’ Movie with Dwayne Johnson in the Works
The popular TV series Baywatch is about to be adapted for the big screen by Paramount. As he confirmed via Twitter, Dwayne Johnson will star in the beach flick, although it’s not clear whether he will play Mitch Buchannon, the character made famous by David Hasselhoff.
Since Johnson is an action star with a perfect physique, he seems a logical choice for a film that requires the male lead to spend lots of time running around shirtless on a Santa Monica beach.
Directing the feature are Sean Anders and John Morris, a duo best known for their screenwriting collaborations, most notably 2013’s We’re the Millers. Anders has directed several other movies over the years, including the soon-to-be released Horrible Bosses 2.
Johnson hinted at what moviegoers can expect when he commented on Instagram, “Edgy, raunchy and hopefully funny as all hell. Cue slo-mo running on the beach.”
In development for several years, the project was slowed by an unsatisfactory script. An early draft involved shark attacks and drug smuggling. Numerous writers have been involved, including Jeremy Garelick and Peter Tolan. The scribe working on the latest version of the screenplay is Justin Malen, who recently completed the script for the sequel to Horrible Bosses.
Montecito Pictures and Johnson’s filmmaking partner Hiram Garcia are among the producers.
