Ben Affleck to Portray Batman in ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel
The next actor to portray Batman has been revealed. Warner Bros announced Thursday that Ben Affleck will don the cape in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” said Warner Bros. exec Greg Silverman. “His outstanding career is a testament to his talent, and we know he and [director] Zack Snyder will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
Snyder echoed the studio’s sentiments, saying he “can’t wait to work with” Affleck. “Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to [Henry Cavill’s] Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” said Snyder.
Fans will inevitably compare the new Batman to Christian Bale’s Dark Knight, but the new Bruce Wayne will be “an entirely new incarnation of the character,” according to Warner Bros.
The currently untitled sequel, which was announced during Comic-Con earlier this year, will pit Superman against the Caped Crusader. David S. Goyer is currently writing the script. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are expected to reprise their roles from Man of Steel.
Let’s pretend Daredevil didn’t happen. Do you think Affleck is the right choice?
