Ben Affleck Negotiating to Play the Assassin in ‘The Accountant’
Ben Affleck may star in the upcoming thriller The Accountant, which centers on an accountant who works as an assassin on the side. The Black List script was written by Bill Dubuque, best known for co-writing the new Robert Downey Jr. suspense drama The Judge.
Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) is in negotiations to direct the picture. After many years in the film industry, O’Connor is finally attracting more attention, with credits like the highly anticipated Jane Got a Gun.
Uncertainty has surrounded The Accountant, a former Sony property that has now landed at Warner Brothers. Over the years, several different directors have been considered, and at one time Will Smith was interested in playing the lead. Now, however, it looks like the project might finally be on track.
Movies about undercover assassins are nothing new, so this flick will need something special to set it apart. Affleck, flying high with the mega-success of Gone Girl, could be just what it needs to entice moviegoers in big numbers.
In his next project, Affleck will be both behind and in front of the camera—writing, directing and starring in the Prohibition Era crime drama Live by Night, which begins shooting in July 2015 and is scheduled for release Oct. 7, 2016.
