Ben Simmons Just Won’t Stop Dunking (In Warm-Ups)
Shortly after the NBA All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that their prize rookie Ben Simmons would not make his debut during the 2016-2017 season, referencing the failure of Simmons’ surgically repaired right foot to fully heal.
It was a disappointing blow to those of us who had started to get excited about Simmons’ first appearance on an NBA court, especially after videos of some of his on-court workouts spawned rumors that his debut was imminent.
Alas, the 76ers decided to play it safe and keep Simmons inactive for the rest of the season, so we’ll have to wait until next October to get our first glimpse of the 2016 No. 1 pick. In the meantime, Simmons has been kind enough to throw down vicious dunks in both 76ers practice sessions and pregame warm-ups—and they’ve been delightful.
After Simmons was spotted dunking in practice last week, NBA photographer Gemini Keez snagged a couple of videos of Simmons throwing down ahead of the 76ers matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night. Simmons looked every bit as athletic as he did during his year at LSU.
