Benicio Del Toro Stars in Comedy ‘A Perfect Day’
Benicio Del Toro stars in the feature film comedy A Perfect Day, which follows humanitarian aid workers in the Balkans in 1995, near the end of the Bosnian conflict.
Reminiscent of classic anti-war comedy dramas like M.A.S.H. and Catch-22, this flick is based on the Spanish novel Dejarse Llover, by Paula Farias of Doctors Without Borders.
Set in a rugged mountain area, the story centers on an eventful 24-hour period during which the workers struggle to remove the corpse of an obese man from a well before the water becomes contaminated. Farias wrote the big screen adaptation with collaborator Diego Farias.
This project, which recently made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, marks the English-language debut of Spanish writer-director Fernando Leon de Aranoa, known for the Javier Bardem dramedy Mondays in the Sun.
Del Toro plays Mambru, the head of the Aid Across Borders unit. The film co-stars Tim Robbins (The Spoils of Babylon) as a reckless and unpredictable logistics guy, who takes nothing seriously despite often grim circumstances. Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) portrays Mambru’s former girlfriend Katya. The cast also includes Melanie Thierry (The Hollow Crown), Fedja Stukan (Child 44) and Sergi Lopez, best known for Pan’s Labyrinth.
A Perfect Day is expected to hit theaters later this year.
