A Gamer’s Guide to Black Friday
‘Tis the season to save lots of dough on your gaming wants and needs. After the debut of new gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony, and other new technologies, there will be several Black Friday deals on older items from popular retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart.
Xbox 360 & PS3
Listed deals for the latest entries in the “old-generation” console category are impressive. If you don’t have either and can’t find the funds for the current-gen newbies, these are a safe bet. Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida confirmed his company’s plans to support the PS3 for a “long time,” and there is no reason to suspect the Xbox 360 will be ignored by Microsoft.
Amazon is offering a 250GB Xbox 360 bundled with Halo 4 and Tomb Raider for $189.99, and a 250GB PS3 bundled with The Last of Us and Batman Arkham Origins for $199. Best Buy is also selling the 250GB Xbox 360, but its bundle includes includes Batman Arkham City and Darksiders 2 as well as Halo 4 and Tomb Raider. It also retails for $189.99.
Games
Quite a few games are up for grabs on Black Friday, and not all of them are past their prime. Call of Duty: Ghosts is available via Amazon and Walmart for $39.99. AC4 retails for $34.99 at Best Buy. GameStop has Battlefield 4 for $29.99. Amazon and Walmart are selling Arkham Origins and GTA V for $34.99, and Toys R Us is offering their entire game inventory for sale—buy one, get another one at 40 percent off.
Of course, some older selections are being sold as well. Sears and Kmart are your best bet for all things Nintendo. Walmart has an enviable list of games it will be practically giving away at $10, $15 and $25. Research the options carefully because everyone else will!
Accessories
A gaming console is only as good as the sum value of its accessories, right? Luckily, retailers are placing a number of auxiliary items on sale. Turtle Beach headsets are being sold at Walmart and Target for $39 and at Best Buy for $35. Kmart is selling camo controllers for both Xbox 360 and PS3 for $39.99; and Best Buy is letting them go for $34.99. GameStop is selling an 8GB memory card for PS Vita for $9.99 and a Pulse wireless headset for PS3 for $79.99.
Of course, the greatest accessory to any gaming system is a television set. Nearly every store is offering deals on flat screen TVs. Best Buy has a 55″ 1080p LG LED HDTV for $499.99. Walmart has a 55″ Emerson flatscreen for $288 and a 70″ Vizio for $998. It’s time to let go of that old CRT.
