Dramatic Thriller ‘Room’ Stars Brie Larson and William H. Macy
In the bizarre but compelling thriller Room, Brie Larson plays a woman trapped in a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space with her 5-year-old son Jack. The two have been confined since they were abducted seven years earlier. The woman has done her best to give Jack a full life despite their isolated and captive existence. She manages to create a whole universe for her young son within their tiny room, but as Jack’s curiosity about their circumstances grows, the woman is compelled to break free and escape.
The Los Angeles Daily News quoted Larson, saying “She basically creates her own mythology. It’s for her son but it’s also for herself, sort of making this reality that everything is safe and OK in there and there isn’t anything out in the world that they’re missing. She’s really struggling to keep up this facade to get through each day with the lack of quality of life she has, as well as being sexually abused and having no one to talk to about it.”
Starring as Jack is Jacob Tremblay (The Smurfs 2). The cast also includes Joan Allen (The Bourne franchise), William H. Macy (Shameless), Sean Bridgers (Dark Places) and Megan Park (the Lifetime series The Lottery).
The movie was directed by Irish-born filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson (Frank). The screenplay was written by Emma Donoghue, who also wrote the bestselling novel that served as a basis for the film.
Room will open in New York and Los Angeles on Oct. 16, and go to nationwide release on Nov. 6. Watch the trailer below.
