Female ’21 Jump Street’ to be Scripted by Writers of ‘Bob’s Burgers’
A female take on 21 Jump Street is currently being developed, and sisters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux of Bob’s Burgers are on board to write the screenplay. The duo was hired after they submitted a pitch to Sony. However, they are not the the only writing team working on the project. Collaborators Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs of Comedy Central’s Broad City are also writing a script. The approach, known as dual-track deveopment, is fairly common in the film industry.
21 Jump Street, the buddy comedy film franchise starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as two baby-faced undercover cops specializing in youth crimes, has been hugely successful. The third installment, titled 23 Jump Street, is now in the works. Rumors have also surfaced about a Jump Street/Men in Black crossover, with filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller both hinting they are open to the idea.
These movies were inspired by the 21 Jump Street TV series, which helped launch the career of Johnny Depp in the 1980’s.
