‘GTA Online’ Heists Mode Coming in 2015; Rockstar Explains Delay
Rockstar has confirmed that the long-anticipated Heists mode will come to GTA Online in early 2015. Check out the mode in the trailer below.
The feature was originally slated to appear this spring. The developer recently apologized for the delay during a special Asked & Answered feature on their website.
“Heists were a much bigger challenge to create than we had originally anticipated,” Rockstar said. “Early versions were simply not good enough and had to be scrapped more than once as we honed in on how we thought they should work. We, as a company, have always been about trying to make something that is good rather than hitting a date. We apologize when this gets frustrating but firmly believe that rushing out second-rate content does not do anyone any favors.”
GTA Online Heists will work very much like they do on GTA 5. Gamers will assemble a crew, pick an approach for a Heist and then (hopefully successfully) tackle the mission and split the spoils. Talking to IGN, lead mission designer Imran Sarwar explained that the four players involved will need to be rank 12 or above, and the leader will need to own a high-end apartment “to set up the planning board” and assume most of the risk by fronting the heist’s set-up costs.
“Unlike the leader, other crew members get a cash payout for each prep mission, while the leader won’t receive their cash until the finale is complete,” said Sarwar. “Switching between the roles of crew member and heist leader will give players a totally different experience, and we had to make sure there were real incentives to playing each position so that players would see every aspect of how a heist comes together and not just want to stick to the same role each time.”
GTA Online Heists will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
