‘GTA Online Heists’ Gets a Real Release Date
Rockstar has finally announced a firm release date for “Heists” in GTA Online. The four-person co-op mode will arrive March 10.
“We know it’s been a wait, and we appreciate your patience,” said the developer in a post on their website. “Over the next couple of weeks, we will have more information about the launch of ‘Heists’ and about other new features that we will release with it.”
Explaining the reason for the delay back in December, the company revealed they initially underestimated the amount of work that would be needed to bring the mode to life. “‘Heists’ were a much bigger challenge to create than we had originally anticipated. Early versions were simply not good enough and had to be scrapped more than once as we honed in on how we thought they should work,” wrote Rockstar.
“Heists” in GTA Online is expected to work as it does in the GTA V solo mode. Gamers join or assemble a crew, pick a heist, design a plan and—after they pull it off— split the spoils. Each member has a role, but the leader bears the brunt of the responsibility. No cash pay-outs are made until after the mission is completed.
“Switching between the roles of crew member and heist leader will give players a totally different experience,” said lead mission designer Imran Sarwar to IGN. “And we had to make sure there were real incentives to playing each position so that players would see every aspect of how a heist comes together and not just want to stick to the same role each time.”
