Rap News Rundown: Gucci Mane, Kid Cudi, B.o.B., Rich Homie Quan
Last week, Gucci Mane got more bad news, Kid Cudi and B.o.B. hyped forthcoming releases, and Rich Homie Quan released a new mixtape.
Gucci Mane Ordered to Hand Over Weapons
Federal prosecutors filed an indictment against rapper Gucci Mane, ordering him to turn over his weapons in light of his recent run-ins with the law. According to the legal document, Gucci owns two guns—a .40 caliber Glock and a .45 caliber Taurus. The feds want both guns and the ammo that goes with them.
This is just the latest in a string of bad reports concerning the southern performer. He was arrested in May after assaulting a soldier inside an Atlanta nightclub, and again in September after acting erratic and confrontational inside a mall. He also filed a lawsuit against his one-time manager, Debra Antney, and members of his former rap clique BrickSquad, accusing them of fraud.
Kid Cudi Announces New EP
Kid Cudi announced plans to release a new EP. Satellite Flight: the Journey to Mother Moon does not have a release date, but it is expected to give fans a taste of what to expect on his forthcoming album, Man on the Moon 3, which has been pushed back to 2015.
“This will be a prelude to Man on the Moon 3. It’s all attached to the story. When Man on the Moon 3 comes out, you will be able to play this EP and segue into Man on the Moon 3. It’ll be a seamless connection,” said Cudi at a recent concert.
The project features collaborations with Cudi’s long-time friends King Chip and Dot Da Genius. Cudi will announce the EP release date 24 hours prior to its release. “You won’t know when it’s going to happen, but it’s definitely going to happen in the next three months,” he promised.
B.o.B. Releases Preview of Upcoming Album
B.o.B. released a sampler for his upcoming LP, Underground Luxury. In the album, which will reach stores Dec. 17, the rapper distances himself from a pop-friendly sound in favor of more club-ready tunes. During an interview on BET, he said, “Don’t get me wrong, all the success from ‘Nothin’ On You’ and ‘Airplanes’ was cool, but I come back home, go in the clubs and I want to hear myself in the clubs. That’s how ‘Headband’ came about… Now with the album, it’s a lot more eclectic with sounds that nobody’s really doing. It’s a well-rounded project.”
Underground Luxury also features guest appearances by Mike Fresh, T.I., Juicy J, 2 Chainz and Chris Brown. It is a follow-up to 2012’s Strange Clouds and B.o.B.’s third studio album.
Rich Homie Quan Releases Mixtape
Rich Homie Quan dropped his DJ Drama-assisted mixtape, I Will Never Stop Going In. The 17-track tape features plenty of bangers for fans of his hit “Type of Way.”
“I have production from DJ Spins, Metro Boomin’ 808 Mafia. I have some features—not a lot ’cause it’s my mixtape and I gotta tell my story—but I’ve got a few. It’s really like life after Still Goin’ In …On my first mixtape I didn’t have a lot of money so a lot of my stories were about being broke. Now I’ve got a little money, so in my stories I’m having a little fun and enjoying myself. I want you to come into my world,” he told XXL recently.
Quan plans to follow up the freebie with an official debut in the near future.
