During a recent interview, Harrison Ford entertained the idea of again donning a fedora and reprising his role as the iconic Indiana Jones. Talking with the Daily Telegraph, the 71-year-old actor called a possible Indiana Jones 5 “perfectly appropriate,” pointing out that since there’s more to the hero’s story than flashy action scenes, his physical limitations would not detract from the appeal of the movie.

“We’ve seen the character develop and grow over a period of time, and it’s perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass,” said Ford. “To me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had will, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and [yet] that he still managed to survive. That I can do.”

The last installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, released in 2008, introduced the hero’s son, Mutt Williams, portrayed by Shia LaBeouf. It was a box-office smash, pulling in more than $700 million, despite mixed reviews.

It’s unlikely that a proposed fifth film would move forward without the involvement of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. But Lucas has turned his attention to smaller projects after selling LucasFilms to Disney, and Spielberg hasn’t said anything about the Indiana Jones franchise recently. Shortly after Crystal Skull was released, rumors surfaced to the effect that in any future movie, LaBeouf would take the lead and Ford would play a supporting role. But a few comments made by the younger actor during the movie’s promotional run implied he would not return to the franchise.
