James Badge Dale Stars in Sci-Fi Action Film ‘Spectral’
James Badge Dale will star in the 3D sci-fi action thriller Spectral, about an elite Spec Ops team on a mission to eliminate a mysterious and aggressive phantom threat. As the saying goes, “There’s nothing worse than the fear of the unknown.” And there is good reason to fear these unknown but dangerous supernatural beings. Plot details are sketchy, but filmmakers have characterized the story as a supernatural Black Hawk Down.
From Legendary Pictures, the production also features Bruce Greenwood (The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story), Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Clayne Crawford (Rectify), Ryan Robbins (Arrow) and Ursula Parker (TV series Louie).
Nic Mathieu is making his feature film directorial debut with this project. The screenplay was written by Ian Fried (The Ever After Murders), George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum), and John Gatins, whose recent work includes Need for Speed.
The movie appears to have a lot of potential. Variety reports that “Legendary’s Thomas Tull is very high on the project, according to sources, and sees it as a franchise and has an eye at getting this off the ground ever since they acquired the spec from Ian Fried.”
Best known for actioners Iron Man 3 and World War Z, James Badge Dale has been building a solid big screen reputation over the past few years. He is currently filming the disaster drama Granite Mountain, set for release on September 22, 2017.
Spectral will be released in 2D and 3D theaters on December 31.
