Rap News Rundown: Kanye West, Chris Brown, Lil Reese, Chief Keef
Last week, Kanye West’s war against the paparazzi went nuclear, Chris Brown’s probation was revoked for a hit-and-run, Lil Reese was arrested and Chief Keef was called a deadbeat dad.
Kanye West’s Tangle With Photog May Net Criminal Charges
Kanye West has adopted an extreme anti-paparazzi attitude lately. The rap star was leaving LAX airport last Friday (July 19) when cameramen approached him. Angered by the photographers’ aggressiveness, West attempted to wrestle a man’s camera from him. The photographer reportedly sustained injuries during the incident and received assistance from airport medical personnel. The cameraman reportedly wants to press charges, and, according to TMZ, law enforcement officials will forward the case to prosecutors as a felony attempted robbery case.
Chris Brown’s Probation Revoked Following Hit-And-Run
Chris Brown’s probation has been revoked following a hit-and-run incident earlier this year. According to reports, Brown showed an invalid ID and car registration to a woman in the other vehicle and left the scene after getting agitated. The woman was taken aback by the singer’s behavior, but reportedly has no interest in pursuing charges against him. Her attorney even backed Brown’s request that no charges be brought.
The entertainer’s probation, which stems from his infamous 2009 assault of on-again, off-again girlfriend Rihanna, stipulates that he must comply with all laws. He could receive up to four years in prison if the judge rules him guilty. The hearing will be held on Aug. 16. Brown remains free after being released on his own recognizance.
Lil Reese Arrested for Drug Possession
Reese’s latest arrest involves drug possession. The 20-year-old was found walking around Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood when cops patrolling the area located four grams of marijuana in his possession. He admitted the drugs were his and questioned law enforcement’s focus on such a small crime. According to the Chicago Tribune, Reese said, “It’s mine, I got a little weed. So what? There’s serious crime out there. This ain’t a big deal. I’m gangster.” The Glory Boyz rapper was charged with violating the terms of his bond and possessing cannabis.
Thus far this year, Reese has been charged with using false documents to purchase a 2006 BMW, criminal trespassing, mob action, driving without a license and battery.
Chief Keef Being Sued for Child Support
Chief Keef has been so wrapped up in his newfound success that he’s neglected to meet his child support obligations. Or at least that’s what one of his children’s mothers is claiming. The 17-year-old rapper is supposed to fork over $2,600 every month, plus $500 for daycare expenses, according to TMZ. The payments were supposed to start in May, but Keef has only paid $1,900 to date. The mother, who was a middle school student when she had Keef’s child, has filed legal documents in the hopes that the court will force him to pay up. The hearing is scheduled for some time in September.
