Kate Beckinsale, Daniel Brühl Headline Crime Drama ‘The Face of an Angel’
A fictionalized big screen adaptation of journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau’s 2010 true crime book, Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox, will star Kate Beckinsale and Daniel Brühl (Rush). Titled The Face of an Angel, the movie is inspired by the shocking and controversial Amanda Knox criminal case, which made headlines around the world.
The book deals with the brutal 2007 murder of British college student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy, and the subsequent trial of Knox, who was one of three individuals accused of sexually assaulting Kercher and cutting her throat. Nadeau argues that Knox’s family aggressively tried to control the media and distort facts, leading to an inaccurate perception of the much-maligned Italian justice system and causing outrage among Knox’s fellow Americans.
The cast also features Cara Delevigne (Paper Towns), Genevieve Gaunt (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Lucy Cohu (Becoming Jane), John Hopkins (Alice in Wonderland), Sara Stewart (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), and Sai Bennett, whose most recent work includes the PBS drama series Mr. Selfridge.
The movie was directed by British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, who is best known for directing the 2007 Angelina Jolie drama, A Mighty Heart. The screenplay was written by Paul Viragh (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll).
The Face of an Angel will arrive in theaters on June 19. Check out the trailer below.
