Kelsey Grammer Joins Cast of ‘Expendables 3’
Kelsey Grammer has joined the cast of Expendables 3. According to Deadline, the sitcom star will perform the role originally planned for Nicolas Cage: the former mercenary Bonaparte, who helps the Expendables, led by Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), defeat their nemesis, a ruthless arms dealer named Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson). According to a recently released synopsis, Stonebanks co-founded the Expendables with Ross, but the two had a falling out, which ended with Ross believing he had killed Stonebanks. But the brutal warrior survived, and he’s back seeking revenge against his former team. Younger members are expected to join the Expendables as Ross looks to level the playing field with technology.
Grammer will be joined by Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Milla Jovovich, Antonio Banderas, Kellan Lutz, Terry Crews, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, boxer Victor Ortiz and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.
During an interview with Den of Geeks earlier this year, Cage revealed that he was not going to be in the film: “I have not had any formal discussions about [the Expendables sequel]. I’m not in Kick-Ass 2 and I don’t think I’m in Expendables 3. And I like those guys, but I would say it would be highly unlikely that I’d be in that movie.”
Expendables 3 will be released Aug. 15, 2014. The first two testosterone-filled installments have garnered more than $600 million at the box office.
