‘Lego Movie’ Sequel Hires ‘Community’ Director Rob Schrab
Television director Rob Schrab of Community has been hired to direct the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s enormously successful animated comedy The Lego Movie for Warner Bros. This project will serve as the TV veteran’s feature film directorial debut. The duo who directed the first movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are returning as producers of this new feature, along with the original producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee.
Miller and Lord will again write the script, which is based on a story they wrote with collaborators Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan.
The cast for this forthcoming film has not yet been revealed, but Chris Pratt, who voiced Emmet Brickowoski in the first Lego picture, admits he is hoping to return for the sequel.
In addition to his work on the cult comedy favorite Community, Schrab is known for directing prominent TV series The Mindy Project and The Sarah Silverman Show.
This is one of many “brick projects” Warners has in the works for release over the next few years. Another Lego film, titled Ninjago, will debut Sept. 23, 2016, and Lego Batman will hit theaters in May of 2017. The Lego Movie Sequel is expected to be released some time in 2018.
